It's Christmas Eve, 2014, and thirteen-year-old Shirley is listening to the same bedtime story she's heard every year.
This year, she comes face to face with the frivolity fairies from the tale; naughty, careless creatures who cause mischief with no regard to morality.
In a tale of Christmas spirit, magic, and happy endings, find out what happens when one little girl sets out to make things right.

Okay, can I just skip summarizing the book and just tell you everything I loved about it?First, I love the cover. So gorgeous. Definitely judge this book by its cover, because...
It's such a sweet and empowering tale. Jo Michaels packs a lot of punch in few words, managing to create a memorable character and story line in a novella format. It's for all the dreamers out there; for all of us who sat on the edge of our seat as our mothers told us tales, and then wondered if they could be real. And the holidays are the perfect time to connect with this story, although it can be enjoyed any time.
I don't want to give away too much, but imagine a beautiful world with majestic creatures. Now, imagine you can go there, but you can't go home. It's amazing how quickly beauty can turn to horror and sadness when choice is taken away.
Not to worry, though, because this one has a happy ending. Plus, it's free! Yes, you heard right. It's a nice introduction to the amazing writing of Jo Michaels.

The Frivolity Fairies A Christmas Short Story edition by Jo Michaels Children eBooks Reviews
I received this book free from the author in exchange for a review. I absolutely loved this story, great unexpected turns in the story. But I loved the twist to the story.
For the last 13 years, Shirley's mother has told her the same Christmas story about the faeries and their naughty antics. Follow Shirley on an adventure to save the children taken by the faeries.
What a sweet Christmas fairy tale! I really liked Shirley’s story and her adventures with the Frivolity Fairies. I enjoyed the way Jo introduced certain fairy tropes in the story and put her own twist on them. I think children in the 10 to 13 age range would enjoy the story the most since some of the themes could be frightening to younger kids. The short story is free on and I’m glad I picked it up since I feel more in the holiday spirit after I finished reading. On a side note, I have to say I love the cover! The picture and typeset are gorgeous!
Its a charming short story with magic and heart present. Its a tale not only of the the magic beings and events but if family and the importance of that.
Charming little elves with a playful attitude, mischievous ways and the power if beliefs. It makes for a potent goodfeel read.
The Frivolity Fairies is a wonderful holiday tale. Written from a 13-year-old's point of view, it's perfect for all ages. The story starts light-hearted and innocent, then grows darker, but fear not. Readers will be rewarded. The Frivolity Fairies may be a short story, but it sends such a positive message, shows an empowered and brave young woman, and warms your heart, whether you read it during the holiday season or any time of year. This is one short story I would love to see turned into a holiday TV special. It's so unique!
I'm 36 and I enjoyed this little story. I read this in one night (actually just an hour or so). It's hard to tell because I get interrupted a lot when I'm reading, the perks of having a house full of kids. ) Anyways, I loved this story so much that I decided to shorten it and leave out the mild scary parts, so my four year old would enjoy the story too. I have always told my children stories and sometimes it's hard for me to pull them out of thin air. Thanks to this book, I can easily remember what happened and share it over and over with all these kids who love for me to weave a good one. I hope the author doesn't mind me retelling it. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what other books this author has written.
The Frivolity Fairies is a delightful fairy story set at Christmas time. Though I did waver at first since the tone of the story seemed really young with the tale of 6-year-old Sadie, though at the end of the tale, the story takes a darker edge and, that, I really did like. Though the story in general felt like it stayed aimed at a child audience with Sadie feeling like she was 10 or 11 rather than 13, was a bit too frothy for my tastes. The fairies were the typical sprite-like pranksters with a dark edge from the old tales. But considering it’s a Christmas story, it was supposed to be heart-warming and enjoyable for the entire family to read over the holiday, and that it succeeded at. I would recommend this to people looking for a light-hearted children’s fairy story with a slightly dark edge and a lot of fantasy.
